I protest the banning of the Warsaw Pride March

Dear Mr. President,
Dear Mr. Prime Minister,
Dear Mr. Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland,
Dear Mr. Lord Mayor,
Having heard that the Lord Mayor of the City of Warszawa (Poland) intends to again ban the “Warszawa Parade for Equal Rights” (Parada Równoœci) planned for June 11 by lesbian and gay organizations, we are writing to express our deep dismay.
With this demonstration the organizers - the “Campaign against Homophobia” (Kampania Przeciw Homofobii), “Lambda Warszawa”, ILGCN Poland and the “Foundation for Equal Rights” (Fundacja Równoœci) - hope to support the fight for equal rights for lesbians and gay men and the protection of European and international human rights in Polish society.
We highly respect the democratic development of Poland - won by the sheer will of the Polish people to be free and which moved people all over the world. This makes us all the more dismayed to learn that there are those who intend to deny the homosexual citizens of Poland their basic rights of freedom of opinion, speech and assembly. The 2004 parade fell victim to these human rights violations when it was banned by the mayor. Do not let this happen again.
Human rights are indivisible. Lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people have the right to make their problems and their political demands public through demonstrations.
In the name of the values of democratic Europe, we make an urgent appeal to you: See to it that the “Warszawa Parade for Equal Rights” can take place and that the basic rights of free opinion, speech and assembly won't be violated.
This appeal was launched by the Lesbian and Gay Federation in Germany (LSVD) in support of the Equality Parade in Warsaw on June 11.
